ENROLLMENT
Literacy Volunteers of America-Schoharie County, Inc. serves adults (age 16 years and older) who either wish to improve their basic reading and writing skills or learn how to speak and understand English.  LVSC provides one-on-one instruction to residents of Schoharie County.  Both Basic Literacy (reading and writing) and English for Speakers of Other Languages are available.
STUDENT POLICY - Basic Literacy
Literacy Volunteers of America – Schoharie County, Inc. accepts as priority students and adults who have the greatest barriers to literacy and who meet the following criteria:
   1. At least sixteen (16) years of age before July 1st of any given school year;
   2. Function under a fifth grade level;
   3. Demonstrate a desire to learn and a willingness to do all homework suggested by the tutor;
   4. Need tutorial, one-to-one or small group instruction;
   5. Need or desire to improve job, life or leisure communication skills;
   6. Have difficulty in attending adult basic education classes.
Individuals who do not meet these criteria will be considered for tutoring on a case-by-case basis.  Whenever possible, individuals who do not meet the criteria will be referred to other appropriate agencies.

STUDENT POLICY - English for Speakers of Other Languages
Literacy Volunteers of America – Schoharie County, Inc. accepts as priority students and adults who have the greatest barriers to literacy and who meet the following criteria:
   1. At least sixteen (16) years of age before July 1st of any given school year;
   2. Function at low level of conversational English (at or below level 4 ESOL)
   3. Demonstrate a desire to learn and a willingness to do all homework suggested by the tutor;
   4. Need tutorial, one-to-one or small group instruction;
   5. Need or desire to improve job, life or leisure communication skills;
   6. Have difficulty in attending adult basic education classes.
Individuals who do not meet these criteria will be considered for tutoring on a case-by-case basis.  Whenever possible, individuals who do not meet the criteria will be referred to other appropriate agencies.
